AI for Angel Investor
MAIA 5.2 – My Angel Investor Assistant
A personal analyst that helps you avoid the worst mistakes and check what matters before every investment – and keeps watching, analysing and managing your portfolio after you invest.
skills – ten evaluate new deals, nine follow the companies you already own
gates – a fixed pipeline every prospect passes through, in the same order
local – reports land on your own computer, nothing is sent out
angel-fit → market-potential → claim-check → dd-check → risk-analysis → sha-compare → follow-on-plan → investment-gate
New in 5.2
Four changes to the daily work.
Reports in Word
Every report is delivered as both Markdown and Word – ready to forward.
claim-check
Verifies the pitch deck's claims and numbers against the public record.
Personal red-flag overlay
Your own deal-breakers become HARD PASS or WARNING markings.
investor-profile
Records your strategy in one short interview.
Built to prevent six expensive mistakes
The classic pitfalls of angel investing and the tool that prevents each one.
Falling in love with a deal
angel-fit screens on seven criteria first – before emotion.
No follow-on reserve
follow-on-plan prices pro rata in advance.
Diligence skipped in a rush
dd-check walks the full checklist.
Terms read superficially
sha-compare goes clause by clause.
A ticket that is too large
Measured against your own risk budget.
Passive money
angel-fit asks what you actually bring beyond capital.
Before you invest – the eight gates
A fixed pipeline, always in the same order. Most deals should die early – that is the funnel working, not failing.
angel-fit
What you bring + the seven criteria.
market-potential
Is the market big enough for 10×?
claim-check
Do the claims and numbers hold up?
dd-check
Team, IPR, traction, financials, legal.
risk-analysis
Likelihood × impact, and what must be believed.
sha-compare
Vesting, pro rata, liquidation preference.
follow-on-plan
What holding your stake will cost.
investment-gate
INVEST / NEGOTIATE / WATCH / PASS.
After you invest – portfolio watch
Nine watchers. One command runs them all, every month.
first-100-days
The rhythm agreed right after closing.
finance-watch
Runway, burn rate and the going-concern light.
business-watch
Sales, customer wins and competitor moves.
comms-watch
Releases and media since the last run.
valuation-watch
Dilution, pro rata cost and post-round solvency.
social-watch
Channels and investor signals.
meeting-watch
AGM dates and reminders in your calendar.
ownership-summary
Every holding and value in one table.
portfolio-review
All watchers, all companies, one page.
Security – your data never leaves your computer
MAIA runs locally inside Claude Cowork. There is no MAIA server, no account and no upload step.
Everything is written locally
Every report, note and model document is saved to a folder on your own computer.
Web searches use public names only
Your figures, cap table and data-room contents are never part of a query.
The plugin is logic, not data
maia-5.2.plugin contains instructions only. Handing it to another angel cannot leak a portfolio.
Your strategy stays private
INVESTOR.md and your red-flag file are local – never quoted in a search, never bundled in the plugin.
Member documents stay with the member
FiBAN model documents are a member benefit. Each user downloads their own copy.
One deliberate exception
meeting-watch can place an AGM reminder in your own calendar – company name and date only, never figures.
What is still on you: Claude's own terms apply to anything you paste into the chat, so treat a data room as you would any confidential file. Keep the MAIA folder backed up on an encrypted drive or your own cloud – the it-assistant sets that up with you, step by step.
Make it yours
Your strategy, applied
Two questions on the first run. Your red lights become HARD PASS or WARNING; your favourite sectors raise a deal's priority. For a longer list, keep a formal PERSONAL-RED-FLAGS.md with a trigger, a severity and a rationale for each criterion. A favourite never lowers the bar: it is applied by angel-fit at the first gate and re-checked by investment-gate at the last.
The IT assistant
Built for investors with no IT background: one step at a time, no developer vocabulary. It builds the whole MAIA folder structure, advises on file formats, sets up your backup routine and answers any IT question – Cowork, connectors, calendars, printers, Windows or Mac. Try it: "Set up the MAIA folder structure."
Three steps to start
Install
A Claude subscription (Pro or higher), the desktop app and maia-5.2.plugin – one click.
Set up
Say "Set up the MAIA folder structure." The it-assistant explains every folder.
Run
Fill in INVESTOR.md, add your model documents, then drop a deck in the chat: "run angel fit on [company]".

No investment advice. MAIA is a decision-support tool. Nothing it produces is investment, legal, tax or accounting advice, a personal recommendation, or an offer or solicitation to buy or sell any security. Every investment decision, and every consequence of it, is yours alone.
Risk warning. Angel investing is high-risk investing. Roughly half of angel investments lose everything. Invest only capital you can afford to lose in full, and diversify across many companies and years.
AI output can be wrong. MAIA relies on large language models and public sources. Its output may be incomplete, out of date or simply incorrect, and may present errors confidently. Verify every material fact independently and take professional advice before committing capital.
No warranty, no liability. MAIA is provided free of charge and "as is", without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the author accepts no liability for any loss or damage arising from use of MAIA or reliance on anything it produces.
Your responsibility. You are responsible for the confidentiality of the material you process, for compliance with NDAs and applicable law including data-protection rules, for the terms of your own Claude subscription, and for your own backups. MAIA is a community tool built by an angel for angels – it is not an official FiBAN product and is not endorsed by FiBAN.
By installing or using MAIA you accept these terms. The judgement, the decision and the responsibility stay with you. © 2026 Jorma Heinonen · free to use and share, at your own risk.
